Emergence, Ballet Algorithmique is a series of 256 video artworks created by Obvious for Opéra de Paris. It explores the principle of Emergence, and offers a parallel between the creation with algorithms, where the artists prepare the ground for the creation, and the process of creating a ballet.
Each dancer a variable, each movement planned yet unpredictable. Both share an intention: the emergence of something which surpasses the planning and performance of each variable, of something that triggers emotion.
Each artwork is composed of a unique video created using artificial intelligence algorithms, based on the movements of an Opera dancer, sublimed by an aesthetic inspired from the four seasons represented by four emblematic ballets.
The video is accompanied by a unique music for each artwork, composed with the help of other algorithms. Each artwork is unique, both visually and musically, and presents a dreamt ballet, an algorithmic choreography in which the stage is set for pure creation, and for the magic of the moment.

The artworks are distributed into four categories corresponding to the four seasons, each of them relating to a famous play performed at Opéra de Paris
- La Sylphide (Spring)
- La Dame aux Camélias (Summer)
- Giselle (Autumn)
- Casse-Noisette (Winter)
The artworks are also categorized in rarity, which were associated to rewards from Opéra de Paris at the moment of the launch. Each of them involves a different dance movement used as a basis for the algorithmic creation.
