Mathematics as a precept for design
Obvious created the 2025 Kiprun athletes jersey using a generative algorithm inspired by the mathematical principles of aperiodic tiling. This technique, based on simple geometric shapes forming patterns that never repeat, enables an infinite, ever-evolving and unique design.
To Obvious, this perfectly represents an infinity emerging from finite elements, showing how the combination of energies, talents, efforts, and personalities becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Each team member, with their own story, skills, and personality, pushes the team toward infinity.
A unique jersey for each athlete
From this design, they created unique jerseys for the athletes, each one of them composed of the same shapes, yet unique in the way the shapes are arranged together.
In order to allow for this creation, they developed a new printing process together with the engineers at Kiprun, involving the printing of a 13 meters long scroll, and using fabric in a non deterministic way, leaving space for the emergence of partly unexpected design.
Inspired by performance and exploration
The design of the pattern is both geometric and organic. The geometry represents performance, the research of excellence, and the training necessary for the emergence of perfection, the organic line is a representation of exploration, travel, and discovery.
All in all, the design of the pattern brings together trail running and track running, and brings forward the uniqueness of each run.
A new banner for Kiprun
The design created by Obvious for the athletes was unveiled at the Paris Marathon in 2025 and has since been seen on various competitions of road and trail running.
The Obvious x Kiprun jersey was worn by athletes during key events of the season, including the UTMB in Chamonix, and national road races, embodying the fusion of athletic performance and AI-driven design.
